'Merlin' Great Western Railway locomotive No 3260 0001-3622

Acrylic painting by Peter Bird, signed and dated 1984, showing 'Merlin', a 4-4-0 steam locomotive built in 1895 for the Great Western Railway (GWR). The locomotive is depicted emerging from a tunnel on the approach to Dainton Summit, just south of Newton Abbot in Devon. A woman in a white dress watches the passage of the train from the bank of the cutting.
