All of the elements that the transient style of Art Deco comprised were displayed and celebrated in Paris in 1925 at the famous Exposition. The Exposition had been planned for 1915 as a stimulus to French designers, but was postponed because of World War I. In the intervening decade, particularly after 1920, Art Deco style developed rapidly, so that what was originally intended as an effort to provoke modernism became a display and celebration of the new style. It was an elaborate event of unprecedented proportions...Avant-garde paintings and graphics were widely displayed... Three posters were commissioned to promote the event, from Robert Bonfils, (Andre) Girard and Loupot. Bonfils, a decorator and printmaker who contributed regularly to Gazette du Bon Ton, came through in spectacular fashion with his promotion for the exhibit, generating an angular pastoral model of clarity, the ideal combination of the mythical and the technical. This is the smaller format.
