The designer deliberately cuts off the head of his subject so that the table set for dinner remains the focus of the design. Putting the whole scene on rails makes the railroad connection crystal clear; an inspired piece of work by Alexeieff, a Russian-born illustrator and graphic designer who lived most of his life in Paris.
