Here Lautrec shows us the comedian Caudieux striding off the stage past the prompters box with a smirk that says hes satisfied with his performance. By tilting the perspective so that we see the stage lines at a downward angle, he gives the composition added dynamics. This, hes telling us, is a confident, vain, domineering performer, a stage presence to be reckoned with. Feinblatt calls this a study in dynamic motion and concentrated energy . and his bustling sweep across the boards is an unparalleled rendering of movement among Lautrecs posters.
