Mucha Luchon Casino Spa Poster 0000-1296

1895 Beautiful Mucha rendering of the prestigious Pyrenees resort. Mucha failed to sign this railway poster for the prestigious Pyrenees resort, one of his early designs, thereby creating a mystery; it was later attributed by different authorities to Grasset, even to Tamagno. Yet the catalogue of the 1896 Reims poster exhibition credits him correctly, and many decades later a preliminary sketch was found in his estates papers, so the authorship is no longer in dispute; the architectural renderings of the spa and casino at right, however, were clearly contributed by someone else. A factor which may have compounded the enigma is the absence of a beautiful woman something Mucha almost never omitted which makes this, on all accounts, one of Muchas most offbeat works.
