1927 Swiss Lowenbrau Beer Poster 0000-1080

A red lion with a black blanner adorns a foaming stein of Lowenbrau beer. Long before Lowenbrau (lions beer) was enjoyed by beer lovers around the world, it was a local Zurich beer. This foaming stein, as well as another design he created for the company a bit earlier, uses the product's rampant red lion with black banner logotype to affix the product to the viewer's tippling subconscious. Apart from posters with global theses like beer is something good, beer drinking is promoted through the simple illustration of the product. The full, large . . . glass with the oversized head . . . (has) the same effect on the thirsty person as the bone has on the dog. The product itself . . . is ultimately the most convincing advertising argument.
