Neuva Plaza de Toros/San Sebastian 0000-1027

Ruano-Llopis, arguably the premier designer and certainly the most prolific bullfight painter in his day, captures the excitement and pageantry surrounding the openings of a new bull-ring in San Sebastian without placing a toro within view. Choosing instead to focus on the machismo of the picadors, the torereo and a sample of the dark-skinned beauties which most certainly will flock to the six days of bullfighting in the sultry days of August, he effectively revels in the pageantry, as opposed to the brutality, of the battle between man and beast.
