Cocteau was closely affiliated with the world of dance and theater, as a writer, painter and decorator. This early design - seen here without the text panel announcing that the April 19th performance in question is being given by the Ballet Russe - shows Vaslav Nijinsky, one of the greatest male dancers of all time . . . With Diaghilev as his patron, he rose to international stardom, famed for his legendary elevation, his exotic appearance and his consummate artistry. For him Fokine created Le Spectre de la Rose (this being the poster for the premiere) and he excelled in such other Fokine ballets as Scheherazade, Dances from Prince Igor, les Sylphides . . . His career in Western Europe lasted only a decade, for he went insane and lived out the rest of his life away from the stage. Giclee Prints are printed on heavy matte finish 180gsm German art paper using the finest Canon archival inks. Entry Level Art Prints are printed on 250Gsm satin paper.
