NYC World Fair Holland Oceanline Poster 0000-0662

Ten Broek's poster for the Holland-American line uses a montage of symbols--the Fairs Trylon and Perisphere, the Manhattan skyline, the U.S. and Dutch flags--to advertise excursions to the 1939 Fair. The ship is, appropriately, the Nieuw Amsterdam--one of the most beautiful ever built, according to some ship-lovers. She had just gone into the service the year of this poster and was in Venezuela when the Germans overran Holland in 1940. She subsequently served as an Allied troop transport during the war. An English-language variant of the design was also produced; this is the German version.
