1928 Art Deco Passengers Board Ship. Passengers and porters queue-up for the three hour Channel crossing from Ostende to Dover with a sunny, smart angularity only attainable in the hands of a superlative Art Deco practitioner. The Belgian Railway system is the motivating force behind this promotion, but the ferry and her clientele provide the bait for the wanderlust laying in wait in all of us. The Swiss-born and educated artist, Leo Marfurt, worked closely with Belgian painter and decorator, Jules de Praeter, with whom he came to Belgium in 1921, where he settled and opened an Antwerp studio. He founded and opened his own agency in 1917 and produced varied works, including some magnificent posters for Chrysler, Remington, Minerva, Purfina and the British railways. Marfurt was by far the most innovative Belgian graphic artist between the wars.
