Mucha Nouveau Bernhard Biscuit Poster 0000-0580

A sensitive portrait of Sarah Bernhardt in a wistful pose from one of her major stage successes, 'La Princesse lointaine,' is used here to promote Lefevre-Utile biscuits, with Sarah's own hand-written testimonial: 'I haven't found anything better than a little LU- oh yes, two little LU.' Mucha had already executed several designs for the Lefevre-Utile firm, involving not only posters, but also boxes and wrappers, all of them using beautiful girls. This is the only one, however, that uses a well known and universally admired stage personality.
