Arguably one of the most beautiful woman of the 20th century's face slapped into a suspended sausage in order to add some much needed allure yo ""Mortadella,"" an early 1970's comedy starring Ms. Loren and William Devane. Released in the United States under the more-palatable title of ""Lady Liberty"", the story line goes as follows: Our two stars fall in love during the 1960s, while working at a meat factory in Emilia, Italy, which is subsequently stormed by the workers' protest. Their love, however, can't be as he is married and Italy has no divorce. So she persuades him to move to the U.S., with the provision that she will join him at a later date. Four years later, with the titular Mortadella as a gift, she arrives in New York. But, since U.S. customs doesn't allow processed meat to enter the country, she is detained at JFK airport, where she refuses to hand over her sausage and learns the sad truth about the true nature of her relocated love. Though perhaps not the proudest moment of their careers , the movie also features supporting appearances by Danny Devito and Susan Sarandon.
