Pre-1890 full-color Cheret designs are comparatively rare, and so are ones with English text, so this is a double surprise. However, we can always expect something lovely and feminine in his work, and in that respect, it's business as usual. The brothers Gelle had a thriving perfume and toiletries business in Paris, aimed at an upscale clientele; hence the English-language poster was probably used by them locally, to appeal to the city's large American and English contingent, as well as to the sophisticated French consumer.
