French Chenard Walcker Automobile Poster 0000-1316

From the looks of things, it might appear to the non-enthusiast as if we were being treated to a scene right out of H.G. Wells Food of the Gods. But fear not, gentle viewer. All we are party to is a bit of Auger artistic exaggeration, who brings the avian portion of the Chenard & Walker logo to life and then proceeds to Super-Size the eagle for maximum promotional impact. The Chenard & Walcker factory, based in Asnieres, began manufacturing motorized tricycles before moving onto 2- and 4-cyliner light cars until it was forced to close its doors in 1907. They were promptly resurrected under the name Societe Anonyme des Anciens Etablissements Chenard et Walcker in new premises in Gennevilliers. Though they struggled with their competition throughout their history, the C & W 2-liter 1922 model was the winner of the very first Le Mans 24 Hours Race in 1923. And though taken over in 1946 by Peugeot, Chenard remained independent for the next few years, producing light vans.
