Chambers hammers home the point that when it comes to the narcotic pleasures of Chesterfield cigarettes, ""Nothing stops 'em"", much like the performance of an all-star fullback. And who better to hawk smokes than professional (or college) athletes. Charles Edward Chambers was born in Iowa and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Student's League in New York, He was a prolific illustrator, and a specialist in oil paintings used as a basis for advertising. Thus, he did a series of musicians' portraits for Steinway which ran for nine years, and the series for Chesterfield which lasted five years.
