London Underground Bicyclisim Poster 0000-3325

Between 1922 and 1944, Cooper created 54 posters for the London Underground. This handsomely colored design for an exhibition on bicycling was one of a series he did on museum destinations. The early bike shown was known as a 'high-wheeler' or, slightly derisivley, as a 'penny-farthing' for its resemblance to the largest and smallest British coins of the period. In 1943 Cooper turned from his career as a graphic artist to become a full-time painter.
