25 Years of Buick Automobile Poster 0000-2732

The silver anniversary poster for Buick is somewhat formal, in keeping with the make's upscale image. In 1904, business tycoon William Durant came across a struggling independent engine shop owner, David D. Buick, who had built some interesting vehicles but had no talent for marketing and advertising them. Durant supplied that, and their joint enterprise sold some 8,000 cars per year for the next four years. But such a pace was too much for Buick and he left, whereupon Durant, using the Buick brand as the cornerstone, organized in 1908 the behemoth of the industry, General Motors, gobbling up Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Oakland (Pontiac) along the way. While his former partner was raking in the millions, the hapless Mr. Buick went on to several foredoomed ventures, eventually dying destitute.
