Without the racing enthusiasts in the background, this would be an exceedingly fine portrait of a horse and jockey - and, indeed, the artist had produced quite a number of these; but here, it is used in a poster announcing a meet at the Frauenfeld course. Hugentobler worked for a number of years for the Swiss racing industry, producing a string of distinguished designs valued by turf enthusiasts.
