Because of WWI, this 1915 Essanay short - titled Work in the U.S. took some time to get to Germany, where it was distributed by Humboldt Film, Berlin.  It features Charlie as the assistant to a slave driving house painter who makes him do all the work.  On a single job he gets into trouble with his equipment, flirts with the maid, saves the owner from being cuckolded by his wifes admirer and causes an explosion in the kitchen- all in the 20 minutes a two reeler runs.
