The classically morbid Fenneker creation for the Big Italian Showcase Film, Il Viaggio (The Voyage), renamed Nemesis for its German release revels in the inevitabilities of retribution and mortality.  In this story, a young Sicilian bride is unexpectedly widowed, and by local custom is forced to live in seclusion.  She rebels against her condition, especially after she is informed by her physician that she has an incurable disease.  So she treats herself to a whirlwind junket of Italy in the company of her brother-in-law, with whom she is in love.  Her nemesis, in this case, turns out to be herself, and consumed with guilt, she commits suicide in Venice.
